What To Expect At Auditions

Childrens’ auditions

Children are not required to prepare a song for auditions. We will be running a workshop style audition where all children will be taught a section of a song, a short dance routine and participate in some character acting exercises. They should dress in comfortable clothing appropriate for a workshop. We are looking for children auditionees aged between 10-14 years old as at 1^st June 2025 (closing performance).

In addition for those children that want to be considered for the roles of Zack (Guitar), Freddie (Drums), Katie (Bass Guitar) and Lawrence (Keyboard) you will need to upload in a video of “Stick It To The Man”. Here are the YouTube videos that teach you how to play "Stick It To The Man". Each video includes a link to the sheet music to give you all you need to learn it ready for auditions.

Adult auditions

All adults and teens (from 15 and above) will be required to prepare an audition song and participate in the dance audition. Auditionees should bring 2 songs to sing - something that showcases their range and versatility. One song in music theatre style and one in a rock style.

You need to bring along with you sheet music for the audition pianist. If page turns are required, it is best to place the sheet music in a plastic sleeve folder or display book and it must be in the correct key. You may use a backing track for the rock style song.

Adults who are auditioning for any of the principal or supporting roles may be required to do a cold read during their vocal audition.

At the completion of both your movement/dance audition (first) and vocal audition (second), you may be given sides (songs and scenes) to prepare for the call back session. You will be required to be familiar with the call back material given to you, but not required to be off book or page down. If you are called back, be prepared to be at the Venue from the scheduled times below as our casting process involves everyone in the room, together, workshopping variations of material so we can mix and match potential actors, see how you connect & communicate, and with us, and how you sound together in an open/transparent room.

All auditions will be held at Belmont Park Pavilion 162 Barrabool Road, Belmont.

Everyone wishing to audition must fill out our online form using Cast 98. Children select the Workshop option and aged 15+ select a vocal audition time and the Dance/Movement Audition. Please arrive 10 minutes before your audition time and wait downstairs.

Available Roles

Dewey Finn - Rock Tenor (B2-A5) Age 25-40. An overly ambitious, rock-obsessed, under achieving wanna-be rockstar with big dreams. A highly energetic and comedic role. Improvisation skills desirable. Must be able to play guitar competently.
Rosalie Mullins - Soprano (A3-D6) Age 25-40. An uptight and highly strung headmistress of an elite school. Driven by success and prestige. However, inside lives a caged, rock and roll lover. Strong belt and legit top range required.
Ned Schneebly - Baritone (C3-F#4) Age 25-40. Substitute teacher and former bandmember of Dewey’s, Ned has decided to take the ‘responsible’ road in life and has given up on his dreams of becoming a rock legend. Desperate for the approval of his partner, Patty, even if it goes against his core beliefs. Rock voice preferred.
Patty Di Marco - Mezzo-Soprano (B3-E5) Age 25-40. The loving but dominating partner of Ned, Patty is constantly trying to mould Ned into the person she thinks he should be. She is frustrated by Dewey’s presence in their flat – and his influence on Ned. Strong belt required.
Mrs Sheinkopf - Age 35-50. Ms. Sheinkopf has been at Horace Green for as long as anyone can remember. Her years of service have not softened her. Pop/Rock singer who moves well.
Summer Hathaway - (A3-D5) Highly intelligent, over-achieving and no-nonsense Horace Green student with a demanding presence. Holds high expectations and standards for herself and everyone around her. Suspicious of Dewey and his unorthodox teaching ways. Pop singer with the ability to move well.
Tomika - (A3-G5) A new student at Horace Green, her fathers are failing to see that she is struggling to fit in. Withdrawn and shy but has an underlying enthusiasm and desire to be part of the band. Blows everyone away when she sings. Must have a strong singing voice.
Zack Mooneyham - (guitar) – (A3-D5) A highly gifted musician and songwriter but struggles to connect with his overbearing, workaholic father. Must seriously rock at guitar with some impressive solo skills. Good mover with Pop/rock vocals.
Freddie Hamilton - (drums) - (A3-D5) This is the kid who comes from a working-class background and unlike many of his classmates – was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He is constantly told he isn’t intelligent especially by Summer & his father but Dewey sees his brilliance. Pop/rock singer with exceptional drum skills and personality
Katie - (bass) - (A3-D#5) Distinguished by her talent for the bass, Katie takes to being in the band like a fish to water. Energetic, enthusiastic with a lot of rhythm and attitude. Pop/Rock vocals with the ability to move well.
Lawrence - (piano/keyboard) - (A3-D#5) An awkward, unconfident boy but a genius on the keyboard who needs a free spirit like Dewey to lead him out of the darkness. Pop/Rock vocals and good mover. Epic piano skills a must.
Marcy - (A3-G5) A quiet girl who is happy to be in the background and add her angelic voice and moves to the band. Back-up singer with style. Pop/Rock vocals and great mover.
Shonelle - (A3-G5) Also a shy girl but along with Marcy adds her angelic voice and moves to the band. Their confidence builds during the show. Back-up singer with style. Pop/Rock vocals and great mover.
Billy Sandford - (A3-D5) Flamboyant with a love for style & fashion, he becomes the band’s stylist who believes in his artistic vision even when others don’t. Pop/Rock singer and confident mover.
Sophie - (A3-D5) Puts her hand up to be a roadie but also appears as a back-up dancer. Pop/Rock singing voice and with the ability to move well.
Mason Ward - A super-smart, good hearted, tech savvy boy who designs all the special effects and lighting for the band using his laptop. (A3-D5) Pop/Rock singing voice and with the ability to move well.
James - (A3-D5) A bit of a toughie who becomes the bands security guard who importantly keeps look out during the band’s secret rehearsals. Pop/Rock singing voice and with the ability to move well.
Madison - (A3-D5) Happily agrees to be a roadie (& back up dancer) with her best friend Sophie – she doesn’t want to miss out. Pop/Rock singing voice and with the ability to move well.
Adult Ensemble - An adult ensemble will play the remaining roles with cast expected to fill multiple roles were possible.
